Route 66 does not really exist anymore, but there are Historic Route 66 signs in every town. However, each town is by-passed by the new interstate resulting in reduced commerce and general degradation which is sad to see.
Our part of this route runs parallel with the railroad and we have seen endless freight trains plowing back and forth. En route to the Painted Desert we cross the track just as a train was coming. We all waved frantically and the train blew its horn in recognition which made Alexander very happy.
We seem to have got the dining thing sorted- I had an awesome Mexican meal for lunch or marinated lamb in corn tortillas. Tonight we dined Mexican again but settled for the prime rib- Yum!
