Early afternoon we braved the rain and stopped off at Fort Ross- an interesting little settlement founded by the Russians in the 1700's to gather otter pelts and farm crops to supply their settlements in Alaska. One otter pelt could fetch as much as $100 in China in those days! The picture here shows the orthodox church that was inside the stockade (all made of redwood).
