Mothers Day and the Killer Countryside

This US Mothers Day we were missing a Mother- Marty. She had been hospital for over a week with septicemia from e coli poisoning and sadly wasn't up to being out with the family (we hope to see Bob and Marty next week). This is probably the first time we have ever not had the two Mothers together (who ironically plan their own day between them- leaving us men to fill in the blanks), so it left me with a slight conundrum of what we should do?

Remembering the boating incident of last year I resolved to keep our feet on dry land and decided that a trip to Nisene Marks State Park for a picnic would be a good idea. We have had many a nice picnic there in the past and Dena thought it would great.

Alas young man had other ideas as a friend invited him swimming while were getting the picnic together. By the time we had prised him from the neighbours house Highway 17 was jammed as it usually is after 10:00am in the summer, making Nisene Marks a no go.

Undeterred I took us to a little picnic spot Dena took me to for our anniversary last year and after Alexander had proclaimed his hatred for all things natural - killer insects, murderous hawks poisonous plants and hiking in general, we settled down for a very pleasant lunch looking out on the vista towards the coast.

One thing that was both surprising and delightful was Alexanders card to his Mom which I will scan shortly and post. (There is a bit of his Dad in him after all- in terms of his Maths and resulting ability to compose prose and blank verse, which I discovered at the same age.). Well Done to his teacher for cultivating this!
