Loitering in the Admirals Club

Before I left I was given 5 passes to the American Airlines Admirals Club. I decided sitting around waiting for 4 hours for my plane warranted the use of one pass. Interestingly enough the American Airlines Admirals Club is just like any first class lounge except you have to pay for everything. You even have to pay to join in order to get in to pay for everything. This is certainly not a club I want to be a member of.

As I sat Skyping with Gray and Julie, I watched my flight to LA slide off the board. I decided to make use of the flight agents at the American Airlines Admirals Club. They were after all free!

My first attempt yielded a “Wait until you get to LA and if you miss your international flight with Virgin, someone will help you.”

Not good enough!

As the flight slipped further, I politely pointed out that it was really not possible to make an international flight to anywhere with 10 minutes to spare. I schmoozed and schmoozed and eventually was told I could fly from Dallas to New York (the right direction at least) and pick a Virgin flight from there. They just needed the ticket details which being an e-ticket, I didn’t have.
A quick call to my travel agent and all bets were off- she had seriously pissed off the agent. Back to the schmooze…. After some further efforts, Joanie (we were now on first name/last name terms by now), called Virgin and they were their usual helpful selves.
