Stepping off the helicopter

There is a scene at the beginning of the last Batman Movie (Batman begins) where just before it crashes into a really big statue the caped crusader steps off a helicopter leaving the bad guys to crash and burn. Doing this during your career requires high degree of timing, skill and downright luck. I have friends who are deft grand masters of the good old career disaster sidestep. It’s a great move that I am pleased to say I am at last mastering.

This time, just before my former division spectacularly imploded I stepped off and walked away with a completely different role at ARM; a role so different and so exciting it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s like taking all of the technology I spend my nights and weekends reading about and playing with and turning it into a day job that I get paid money for. For sure some of it will be hard and some of it won’t be fun but overall I think gets me directly involved, hands-on with the technologies and companies that excite me here in Silicon Valley.
