Getting the Tree

When I got back from my travels I discovered that the plans for Christmas hadn't really happened yet and Dena wasn't keen to initiate any of it including getting a tree.

While I didn't particularly mind not tramping through soggy forestland with a cheap-o saw blade hunting for the perfect indoor pine, I thought the we should at least get some sort of tree from a tree lot, which was bound to be cheaper than the whole authentic seasonal lumberjack experience. It wasn't! The trees on the tree lot were at least double the price of of the trees you could chop down yourself. I was quite amazed.

So we ended up heading off to a Christmas Tree farm one morning just after it had snowed in the mountains and we had a truly authentic Christmas Tree felling experience.
"It's cold, so let's not wander around trying to find one. Let's just cut the one down at the entrance." said Dena.
I muttered something about that not being the done thing in the UK- to chop down the show tree that advertised the place, but then realized how cold I was getting, grabbed a saw and hacked down the 13 foot fir tree beside the gate to the Lone Star Tree Farm!

It nearly didn't fit on the car and certainly didn't fit in our front room, even after a good trimming with my electric saw. So we put it up in the family room and it looked lovely!
